How typing tests work
From the countdown to your certificate — here's how scoring works.
- 1 Start the test Pick a language, duration and difficulty. A short countdown gives you time to place your fingers on the home row before the timer begins.
- 2 Type the passage Type the shown passage exactly. Correct characters turn green, mistakes turn red. The live panel tracks your speed and accuracy as you go.
- 3 Speed is measured as WPM Words-per-minute uses the standard formula: correct characters divided by five, divided by the minutes elapsed. This mirrors government exam scoring.
- 4 Accuracy & errors Accuracy is the percentage of keystrokes typed correctly. Depending on the mode, backspace may be limited to reflect real exam conditions.
- 5 Get your result & certificate At the end you see net/gross WPM, accuracy, mistakes and a detailed breakdown. Passing runs unlock a verifiable certificate you can download or share.
Speed
Words per minute
WPM = (correct characters / 5) / minutes
The universal typing-test formula, used by SSC, Railway and CPCT.
Accuracy
Accuracy percentage
Accuracy = correct keystrokes / total keystrokes × 100
Net WPM applies an error penalty so accuracy always matters.
